New York still has yet to apologize to the thousands it fired following the start of the pandemic, according to the law enforcement veteran.
While some states are being cautious about potential new COVID variants, Governor Ron DeSantis made it clear that Floridians won’t have to be concerned about mandated masks and vaccines.
Earlier this week, DeSantis called on state lawmakers to continue penalizing companies that require employees to take COVID-19 precautions, including taking a vaccine or risk losing their job.
During a recent appearance, DeSantis noted, “They were wrong about lockdowns. They were wrong about mask mandates. They were wrong about school closures. They were wrong about mRNA shots. They were wrong about vax passports and vaccine mandates.”
Several states in the past have punished people for refusing to take the vaccine or other COVID-19 protection measures. New York, for example, fired over 2,000 workers when they showed hesitance in getting a vaccine – including several hundred police officers.
As a result, the city is in the midst of a huge increase in criminal activity.
Joining us now to discuss DeSantis’ actions is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. - Some people believe that Ron DeSantis might be going to extremes to fight back against COVID-19 rules and mandates. What do you think personally?
- Do you find it frustrating that New York officials still have yet to rehire and apologize to officers that they fired over refusing to take the vaccine when it was introduced in 2020?
- Why do you think these officers were hesitant against the vaccine to begin with? Not enough information about what was in it? Health reasons? Perhaps something else?
- Do private businesses have the right to pose these health requirements to its employees? Or is DeSantis correct in threatening them with fines if they put said employees into an unjustifiable situation?
