Gun Owners of America spokesperson Stephen Willeford explains why this is a good win, but the battle is far from over.
Following the Supreme Court overturning restrictive local gun licensing requirements, New York Governor Kathy Hochul introduced some restrictive new ones a little while back, including concealed-carry heroes being unable to take weapons within certain locations.
However, a judge recently decided that some of these gun laws were just too strict. As a result, they have blocked them, albeit temporarily.
U.S. District Court Judge Glenn Suiddaby noted that the requirement for people to have “good moral character” to register for a gun was too “subjective,” along with being able to implement gun-free zones within the city.
Hochul noted disappointment in the temporary reversal, saying it was “deeply disappointing that the Judge wants to limit my ability to keep New Yorkers safe and to prevent more senseless gun violence.”
That said, the judge’s decision stands. At least, for now. There’s no telling what Hochul might do next to override their decision and bring her gun laws back. Here to speak on the matter is Stephen Willeford. Stephen serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may also recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.
Q&A:
- Why do you believe Gov. Hochul is so dedicated for these new gun laws to take effect? Especially in the face of rising criminal activity in New York City?
- How pleased are you with the judge’s decision to ban certain provisions of Hochul’s gun laws? Do you believe this is a win for gun owners and those that practice concealed-carry?
- Why do you believe the judge made the decision he did? Do you think he saw some of the unfairness being subjected to gun owners within this country, yourself included?
- Do you believe Hochul is done, or do you think she’ll find a way to pass her controversial gun laws again?
- What sort of gun bill would you introduce with the state of growing crime in New York City nowadays? Is concealed-carry the answer? Or perhaps something else?
- Where can we learn more about you and your current work with the Gun Owners of America?
