For 34 years, Peter Rosenberger has cared for his wife Gracie through the aftermath of her car accident that’s led to 80+ surgeries, multiple amputations, pulmonary emboli, and numerous infections.
Now, the author and radio host of HOPE FOR THE CAREGIVER heard nationally on 180 stations and Sirius XM is quarantined with his wife as she battles the Corona Virus.
- How is your wife doing?
- She is recovering. She doesn’t feel great, but she’s endured worse … and seems to be on her way to punching through this.
- Have you tested positive?
- As of now, no …we are still waiting for the results. Due to the fact she hasn’t been anywhere that I haven’t, as well as my constant proximity to her, I can’t imagine that I won’t. But I’m still am not showing symptoms …which is a bit of puzzle for local health officials.
- Do you know how she got it?
- We live in VERY remote location in Montana and have limited exposure on a regular basis. But she had to travel to a city for specialist appointment. We suspect she came in contact with someone with the virus there.
- How are you doing through the quarantine?
- I’ve been working from home for 17 years while serving as her caregiver. Other than not being able to go to the grocery store, run errands and attend church …it hasn’t changed our routine a great deal. Every caregiver struggles with isolation and loss of independence …and we’ve worked through those issues for years. I still do my live shows, and I also write, cook, clean, do laundry …and we practice music together.
- What message do you have for those quarantined and for those living with fear about this?
- Calm down. There aren’t many circumstances where panic is helpful. Listen to Dr. Fauci, use precautions, and know that we’re going to get through this. My wife is an extremely high-risk individual, and she’s recovering with nothing more than common sense and over the counter treatment.
