How is the Coronavirus Impacting Relationships?

With all the talk about the physical toll the coronavirus is taking on people, what about the emotional toll? How is it impacting our relationships, including marriage when previously when one or both spouses went to work but now are either home not working or working from home?

How does this newfound couples time impact roles or elbow room or even sex? What about an abusive relationship that might worsen by more suddenly having a lot more concentrated time together?

Joining us to help answer these questions and more, is author/speaker Mort Fertel, a world authority on the psychology of relationships, with an international reputation for saving marriages.

Q&A:

1.     The Corona virus is a risk to our health, our retirement account, and our sanity. But what about our marriage? What impact is this situation having on relationships in America?

Answer: I actually think this situation can be great for a marriage. Normally, we have so many distractions taking us away from each other and out of the house. Maybe that’s why this is happening in the world. It’s giving us an opportunity to focus on the most important relationship in our life.

2.     What’s the single most important thing we can do during this crisis to improve our marriage?

Answer: Do a “digital fast” for half of each day. It’s easy to turn to our phones and social media to occupy our time and escape our family relationships again. Don’t do it. Do a digital fast for half of each day. No phones. No social media during this time. No tv. Instead, engage with your spouse. Talk. Play a game. Go for walk.

3.     What should someone do if all the time they’re spending at home with their spouse is driving them nuts and putting stress on their marriage?

Question: A lot of people at home in this situation are asking for “space” from their spouse. But that’s reflective of a weakness in the relationship. The most important thing you can do for your marriage at this time is not to run, not to look for other ways to escape each other, but instead to take the opportunity to understand the dynamics of your marriage and improve upon them. Don’t run. Engage!

4. Is the Corona virus affecting people’s sex lives? If so how?

Answer: I hear shower sex is way up!

5. Are seeing couple in person or are you counseling online now?

Answer: Strictly online and via phone now.

6. Where may we get your book and other written material by you on relationships?

Answer: Please visit MortFertel.com
