Though some may believe that “going their own way” with certain statutes is for the best, the bottom line is if you’re assigned to do a job, you should do that job.
Governor Ron DeSantis sounded off this logic loud and clear yesterday when he suspended State Attorney Andrew Warren for refusing to enforce pre-set Florida laws. He made it clear that they should be followed, and not hidden under a “blanket refusal to enforce criminal laws.”
“State Attorneys have a duty to prosecute crimes as defined in Florida law, not to pick and choose which laws to enforce based on his personal agenda,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“It is my duty to hold Florida’s elected officials to the highest standards for the people of Florida. I have the utmost trust that (replacement) Judge Susan Lopez will lead the office through this transition and faithfully uphold the rule of law.”

- We’ve seen examples in the past where higher-up officials seem to “follow their own route” rather than the pre-set laws given by the state. Is DeSantis’ actions a resounding battle cry to make sure said officials stay on course?
- According to reports, Warren refused to enforce prohibitions on sex change operations for minors and refused to prosecute abortion cases. This was following the Roe vs. Wade reversal on the Supreme Court. How serious a violation would you say his actions are?
- Do you believe DeSantis could go after other Florida officials that aren’t following pre-set laws? Could other states be “cleaning house” as well with certain officials not following theirs also?
- Why do you think these officials try to follow their own agenda? Are they transfixed on following things a certain way, or do they believe they’re doing better for the citizens they serve? Perhaps a little of both?
- Some have criticized DeSantis for his actions, calling him a “pathetic bully” in some cases. What’s your take on this?
