Israel is in shock as terrorism has hit one of its holiest sites, the Western Wall in Jerusalem. A young Israeli civilian was killed, and several were seriously wounded in a shooting attack by a Hamas terrorist. On the same day, there were several other terror attacks, although with no serious injuries reported.
What is the significance of this attack, and what is the connection to American policy?
Here to discuss these questions is David Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and author of “Confronting Radicals: What America Can Learn From Israel.”
Suggested Q&A
- What happened, and where did it happen? It happened at the entrance to the Western Wall, which is the ancient retaining wall of the Temple Mount, undoubtedly the most revered holy site in Judaism. A radical Muslim terrorist from the Hamas terrorist organization shot a Jewish worshipper dead and seriously wounded several others.
- What is the significance of this terror attack happening at the entrance to the Western Wall? Muslim radicals do not recognize any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, even though it’s called the Temple Mount because King Solomon’s Temple stood on that hill. So it’s even more absurd than saying that Americans have no connection to the White House.
- Some political analysts are suggesting that the recent American outreach to the Palestinians contributed to this attack. Do you agree, and if so, why? Definitely, yes, the pusillanimous policy of the Biden administration has encouraged the Palestinian terrorist organizations, in this case, Hamas, to launch brazen terror attacks of this kind with the knowledge that it won’t hurt them politically. But, unfortunately, it’s become clear to them that, no matter what they do, Biden and his weak-kneed administration will continue to make concessions to them and continue to push Israel to do the same.
- If the Biden foreign policy is harmful, what change in American policy towards Israel and the Palestinians are you proposing? I am offering a clear and sane policy that stands with friends and punishes enemies. The Palestinian leadership consists of Muslim radicals who bankroll every terrorist. The United States is too moral to support and encourage such horrific acts of terrorism and other radical behavior.
