But Beware: Indoor Air Quality is often Worse than Outdoor Air
Cold, Flu, and SARS-CoV-2 Season is around the corner and we will be spending more time indoors. But did you know that your indoor air quality is often poorer than outdoor air? At least that’s according to a growing number of researchers.
What’s more, SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, is far more likely to be in the air you breathe in your home or office than the air you breathe while walking on the beach. But what if you must work in an office with other people or want to invite friends into your home?
Helping us answer these questions is author Christy McGlothlin.
Q&A:
1. How would indoor air possibly be worse with all the pollution, smog, and pollen in the outside air?
Answer: If you don’t use an air purifier, YOU ARE the air purifier. The EPA says the average adult breathes over 3,000 gallons of air each day and spends a significant amount of time indoors up to 90%. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air levels of many pollutants can be 2-5 times, and sometimes, more than 100 times higher than outdoor levels. Common household airborne pollutants can include dust (generally comprised of dead skin, dust mites, and dust mite feces, insect parts, and more), smoke from tobacco, wood-burning fireplaces, fuel-burning heaters, and cooking, chemicals from spray cleaners, perfumed deodorizers, carpets, and other building materials, various microscopic bacteria, and viruses.
2. What about HEPA filters. Don’t they take care of any indoor air pollution?
Answer: HEPA filters are capture-based. Capture-based air purifiers do not work in real-time and are only effective against the contaminants that are captured and killed through a HEPA filter, carbon, or ultraviolet light. These units, by design, are only partially effective at reducing some of the airborne pathogens and are not effective at treating pathogens on surfaces.
3. We used to refer to the colder months as Cold and Flu Season. What should we refer to it now, what should be some of our biggest concerns, and what precautions may we take?
Answer: At this point, people are considering our upcoming fall/winter months, the cold, flu, and SARS-CoV-2 season. Boosting our immune system and taking precautions such as continuous sanitizing of air and surfaces are recommended.
4. As a researcher and author of multiple health books, in your opinion, what is the best way to clean indoor air?
Answer: I am really a fan of ActivePure technology. It’s a patented scientific process that actively and continuously disinfects surfaces and air 24/7, minimizing contamination, re-contamination, and cross-contamination in real-time. It’s safe to use in occupied spaces and works without chemicals or ozone to break down viral contaminants into harmless byproducts. It has been studied in independent labs testing efficacy in reducing mold, bacteria, and viruses, including the virus that causes Covid-19. It was even inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame.
5. Where may we get more information on this inside air scrubbing technology?
Answer: at www.TheInsideAir.com/ that’s www.TheInsideAir.com/
