Interview op’ with Michael Letts (in Eastern Time) by Skype, Zoom, or Phone
Topic: As National Police Week draws to a close, the culture of hostility towards law enforcement continues to result in heartbreaking losses and increased anxiety for both police officers and citizens.
During a week established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962 to honor peace officers, the discussions flow about the schism between communities, political leaders, and police officers. In a 2020 poll of 10,000 officers, only 7% of those would recommend becoming a police officer.
With open aggression and tragic losses of life for those in uniform, the demands upon enforcement have reached a critical level.
Q&A:
- Talk about the widening gulf between law enforcement – including the Border Patrol – and the culture.
- Do you see spikes of people leaving the force in greater numbers?
- What impact is the current culture having on the emotional (and physical) well-being of law enforcement officers?
- Most think that all Law Enforcement, including the Border patrol, has access to and wear protective vests – is that so?
- What do you see as the long-term impact on staffing – particularly in urban areas?
- Where may we get more information about protecting law enforcement officers?
