Re-Electing Netanyahu a “Loss”? (Guest: David Rubin)

A longtime confidant of the Israeli Prime Minister doesn’t believe he’s fit for re-election.

It is clear that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has a long list of rivals, many who feel his approach to the war against Hamas has gone the wrong way. But now one of his longtime confidants, Ronald Lauder, has sounded off against him. And former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin, founder and president of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund can’t help but wonder if his bitterness is justified.

  • Lauder, who has been a longtime confidant with Netanyahu, feels he is unfit to lead Israel if re-elected.
  • He noted how the country once “had a real democracy,” but now has something more along the lines of a “banana republic.”
  • He also noted that, if re-elected, “Israel stands to lose badly.”
  • He also accused Netanyahu’s cohorts of “damaging Israel’s image.”
  • Lauder also discussed how badly things went with his controlling shareholder status for Israel’s Channel 10.

When asked about Netanyahu’s re-election as Israeli Prime Minister, Lauder was less than kind with his comments.

“One of the things that made Israel so special compared to other countries is that they had a real democracy. What we’re seeing now feels more like a banana republic.”

He also added, “If (Netanyahu) is elected, Israel stands to lose badly.”

While exact reasoning wasn’t pointed out, it appears that Lauder’s friendship with Netanyahu waned over time. It reached a breaking point when Lauder became the controlling stockholder for Israel’s Channel 10, which saw ongoing criticism from Netanyahu for content that made him look bad.

He also noted that National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also played a part in Israel’s fall from grace, believing they ruined the image of the country with Netanyahu’s approval.

“If (they) play any role in government in the future, Israel is doomed,” Lauder noted.

But is Lauder simply being bitter because of his personal falling out with Netanyahu? Or are his reasons justified for the level of mistrust?

Rubin joins us now to discuss the situation further. Welcome, Mayor Rubin!
