Qatar’s Prime Minister has made some bold – and unconfirmed – claims about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
There are a lot of negative claims being made about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani didn’t hold back on his latest claims, where he believes Netanyahu is the primary obstacle. And former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin, Founder and President of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund disagrees with that assessment.
- In an interview with CNN, Al-Thani claimed that Netanyahu was standing in the way of peace being made in Gaza, mainly due to his objection to the Board of Peace’s disarmament plan.
- Al-Thani has boldly claimed that there is “a long list of violations that, unfortunately, Netanyahu’s government is committing.”
- He feels that Israel is moving “in the opposite direction” for peace, with monthly cash infusions into Gaza being “temporary.”
During an interview with CNN on Friday, Al-Thani was asked about why peace hasn’t yet made any progress on the Gaza Strip. With that, he was quick to blame Netanyahu.

He noted how quickly the Israeli Prime Minister objected to the US-led Board of Peace disarmament plan with Hamas back in late July, insisting on complete disarmament instead.
To add to that, “We have a long list of violations that, unfortunately, Netanyahu’s government are committing,” Al-Thani noted. “And basically, we have seen that he is the biggest obstacle right now in progressing this peace plan while everyone among the mediators (is) trying to work very hard to make sure that this agreement (is) upheld.”
He feels that Israel is moving in the “opposite direction,” and that every demand has been shut down “for the gain of the prime minister and his far-right government.”
He also feels that the monthly cash infusions that have gone into Gaza were nothing but “temporary,” as a way to buy time to “agree on a long-term solution for the situation in Gaza.”
During the interview, Al-Thani was also asked about Qatar supporting Hamas, as reported by The New Yorker, to which he responded it was a “baseless accusation.”
What could’ve pushed Al-Thani to make such claims about Netanyahu? And, for that matter, should allegations regarding Qatar’s relationship with Hamas warrant a closer look?
Rubin joins us now to discuss this situation further. Welcome, Mayor Rubin!
Q&A:
- What do you make of Al-Thani’s claim that Netanyahu is standing in the way of achieving peace in Gaza?
- Does Netanyahu’s objection to the Board of Peace disarmament plan make sense, particularly given Israel’s role in developing the proposal?
- Why would Al-Thani make such strong claims about Netanyahu? Is he seeking to add to the criticism surrounding the Israeli prime minister, or could there be another reason for Qatar to emphasize these accusations?
- What about the allegations concerning Qatar’s relationship with Hamas, including those discussed by The New Yorker? What is publicly known about Qatar’s relationship with Hamas?
- What would need to happen for Gaza to achieve lasting stability and peace? Does Hamas need to be completely dismantled before Gaza can return to stability, or are there other possible paths forward?

About David Rubin…
David Rubin and his three-year-old son, narrowly escaped heinous deaths at the hands of terrorists. Had it not been for his car suddenly starting, Rubin and his son would not have been so fortunate. The younger Rubin deals with the trauma to this day. That experience is what led David to establish the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, to help other young victims of Islamic terrorism, who need to process and deal with their trauma. Rubin, also the former Mayor of Shiloh, Israel is the author of seven books, including his latest, Confronting Radicals: What America Can Learn from Israel, which has recently been made into a movie. Rubin is the founder and president of Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, established after he and his then three-year-old son were wounded in a terror attack.
