Unlike conventional books about Kirk, Edwards’ book is not an examination of his political career, his public speeches or the movement he helped build. It is an intimate remembrance of the man behind the microphone, filled with never-before-seen photographs and personal images Edwards captured throughout the years she knew him. She also possesses personal videos and memories that offer a glimpse of Kirk rarely seen by the public.
Edwards occupied a unique place in Kirk’s life. As he came of age, she describes the relationship as providing him with a big-sister and motherly presence—someone he could trust, confide in and turn to outside the public spotlight. Her perspective offers an unusually personal window into the young man who would eventually become one of the most recognizable voices of his generation.
Kirk’s gift was not merely his willingness to tackle controversial subjects. It was the way he expressed himself. He had a distinctive ability to phrase ideas, observations and cultural truths in ways young people had never heard before. Perhaps most importantly, Edwards is not profiting from the book. All net proceeds from Charlie Kirk, in His Own Words will go toward Carry the Torch, a nonprofit dedicated to finding young, brilliant minds who are prepared to carry forward Charlie Kirk’s message, ideas and legacy.
This is not an attempt to capitalize on Kirk’s death.
It is an effort to remember the man, preserve his words and ensure that his musings live on through the next generation.
