Intro: It’s not coincidental – After reports emerged last week that the Biden administration is already negotiating with Iran, it has been revealed in Israel that Yossi Cohen, the director of Israel’s Mossad, considered one of the top spy agencies in the world, will be meeting with President Joe Biden next month in Washington. This, in addition to a pow-wow with the incoming CIA director, William Burns (if confirmed).
The Mossad is famed for its capabilities in intelligence collection, covert operations, and counter-terrorism, but most of all, for its daring spy operations. What will they be discussing?
Here to answer that question and more is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and author of “Trump and the Jews”.
Suggested Questions:
- If this meeting between the president and the director of the Mossad won’t be happening until next month, why was it announced now? The announcement is in response to the report that Biden’s people are already negotiating with the regime in Iran. There is nothing that concerns and unites all Israelis more than the existential threat from Iran.
- Does that mean that this is an emergency visit to stop the unofficial negotiations? Essentially, yes. From the Israeli understanding of the situation, the only deal that could be acceptable would be a deal that halts Iran’s enrichment of uranium and allows full inspection of all its nuclear facilities, unlike the current arrangement. I should point out that high levels of uranium enrichment are only needed for the development of a nuclear bomb.
- Are there other demands that the head of the Mossad will be bringing to the table? Yes, there is the issue of the massive Iranian support for terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah. The Iranians are the most destabilizing force in the Middle East. Then of course, there is the question of their long-range intercontinental ballistic missile program. They don’t need those weapons to attack Israel, but they are developing them to attack countries on other continents, like Europe and North America.
- Israel has been very outspoken on this issue and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went head-to-head with President Obama on this issue and the conflict was not pretty. Why would it be different with President Biden? This time, it won’t be a head-to-head confrontation. Israel is not alone on this issue. Several Sunni Muslim Arab countries – such as Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, have been putting out a very clear signal of opposition to any restoration of the Iranian nuclear deal as originally formulated, and we can expect those signals to get significantly stronger in the coming weeks and months.
- Your book, “Trump and the Jews” explains how the Iran nuclear crisis developed as well as the differences in the Trump-Biden approaches to this dilemma. Where can people get a copy? They can get a copy at www.DavidRubinIsrael.com or go to Amazon and type in the words, Trump and the Jews.
