Former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin discusses the U.S. leader potentially refusing a new Iranian peace proposal. The right move?
Just weeks after Israel and the United States held off bombing against Iran, a new peace proposal appears to be on the table. However, U.S. President Donald Trump is likely to reject it, believing the Iranians have not yet “paid a big enough price.” But does Founder and President of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund, former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin agree?
For weeks, the U.S. has been trying to get on the same page with Iran with a plan for peace, with one side or the other disagreeing as a result. As a result, the war has created huge disruption with global energy supplies, resulting in higher gas prices and a heavy impact on global markets.
Trump acknowledged the latest plan that Iran sent, noting on social media, “I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can’t imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years.”
Iran was hopeful for the proposal, indicating it would first open shipping in the Strait of Hormuz – a focal point in the discussions – but failing to address the more concerning nuclear program, saying it would talk about it “later.”
At what point could the two possible end up on the same page for a path to peace? And, for that matter, would one side have to buckle in an effort to agree with the other?
Rubin joins us now to discuss the situation further. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.
Q&A:
- What do you think about Iran’s latest peace proposal? Should its nuclear program be discussed as part of the deal, considering the size of its threat?
- What about Trump’s potential rejection of this deal? Do you agree that Iran has not “paid enough of a price” when it comes to the tyranny it’s produced over nearly five decades?
- Where does Israel sit when it comes to the negotiations of these deals? Does Netanyahu have any say in this matter? And, also, do you believe he would agree that Iran hasn’t “paid enough of a price”?
- The effects of this war are certainly lasting, between the thousands in casualties and the global effect on the market. Could this potentially cause someone to “cave in” and eventually agree to a deal? And if so, which side – the United States or Iran – would “cave” first?
- Where do you see this conflict going in the months ahead? Will the situation get worse before it gets better?
