The Gun Owners of America discuss critical rollbacks that will finally provide support for private gun owners.
For a while there, it didn’t appear like President Donald Trump was making enough progress on his promise to defend the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens. But a pair of recently announced rollbacks show that he isn’t backing down on his promise, something that pleases Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford greatly.
Just days after the incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the Trump Administration announced a few changes to long-standing gun regulations. The big one involve doing away with a 2023 rule that has restricted pistol braces, something that has been a thorn in the backside of private gun owners and dealers alike ever since it was put in place by the previous Biden Administration.
In addition, another Biden-set rule that forced firearms dealers across the U.S. to run background checks on buyers at gun shows or other locations outside of typical brick-and-mortar locations, mainly because of violation of Second Amendment rights.
Over 30 planned changes for federal gun regulations are in effect, with a new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Robert Cekada, put in charge.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche made it clear that these changes in gun regulations would pose no threat, despite objections from concerned anti-gun groups. “For too long, regulations were written without any real understanding of how firearms businesses operate, how lawful gun owners handle their firearms, or what truly improves public safety,” he noted.
What kind of effect will these regulations have for gun owners? Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” and the spokesman for the GOA, joins us now to discuss this further. Welcome, Stephen!
