Israel and Hamas: What Comes Next? (Guest: David Rubin)

The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses what could come next now that a ceasefire is being carried out between the two.

With the help of U.S. President Donald Trump, both Israel and Hamas have finally agreed to a ceasefire, nearly two years to the day that the two began their conflict in Gaza. But even with the release of hostages and terms being met, some are questioning just how effective this ceasefire will be.

This comes following a report that Israel has carried out several strikes on Gaza, noting that its troops came under fire in a “blatant” violation of the ceasefire. As Israeli official noted that Hamas attacked these forces in Rafah.

This has led to a session of finger pointing between the two sides, blaming each other for provocations leading to the encounter. That said, it appears – for now, anyway – that they will continue to honor the ceasefire.

But the real question is…will it hold? Hamas, despite agreeing to terms of the ceasefire, hasn’t exactly set a trustworthy tone. And Israel still remains committed to keeping peace, despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu telling military to “act forcefully” against “terrorist targets” in Gaza.

Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.

1. What do you think about the effects of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas thus far, and the hostages that have been freed as part of the deal?
2. Do you believe Hamas may be violating the ceasefire deal by crossing over into territory in Gaza, forcing Israel to act?
3. Why do you think Hamas is trying to point the finger at Israel when it comes to this attack in Gaza?
