A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses a push to pass four unfair bills in Pennsylvania, and what can be done about it.
For some time, there’s been pressure by Democratic leadership within Pennsylvania to pass particular anti-gun bills within the state. But it’s about to get its biggest test to date.
Anti-gun Speaker Joanna McClinton (D-191) is looking to pass four anti-gun bills as soon as this Tuesday with a vote from the House Judiciary Committee. And to say that they’re a violation of the rights of private gun owners is an understatement.
Here are the four bills in question:
- HB 1099 (Undetectable Firearms) — This bill would make it a 3rd degree felony to manufacture, import, sell, ship, deliver, possess, transfer, or receive a firearm made entirely of a non-metal substance. Undetectable firearms are a myth, and there should be no restrictions on the type of gun we should be allowed to make or own.
- HB 1593 (Universal Registration Checks) — This bill would outlaw the private sale of long guns unless you get government permission first. It would also set the stage for a registry in Pennsylvania for all firearms transactions, just like there is for handguns presently.
- HB 1859 (Red Flag Gun Confiscation Orders) — This bill would create Red Flag Gun Confiscation Orders, allowing “ex parte” star chamber proceedings where only one party presents evidence before a judge with no right to face the accuser until AFTER firearms are seized through an order by a pliant judge.
- HB 1866 (Glock Switch Ban) — Efforts to make “Glock switches” and other machine gun conversion devices triply illegal are nothing more than virtue-signaling. It will do absolutely nothing to prevent evil people from committing crimes since criminals ALREADY ignore the federal ban on these devices.
The Gun Owners of America believes in everyone having the right to bear arms, and without the ridiculous set of restrictions that Pennsylvania Democrats want to put in place. A spokesman for the group – either Mark Jones or Stephen Willeford – joins us now to discuss this further. We welcome them to the show!
Q&A:
- Why the sudden push to McClinton and her fellow Democrats to put these restrictive gun laws in place in Pennsylvania? Are they truly that concerned about gun violence?
- Out of the four gun bills being presented here, which one would you say is the most dangerous when it comes to violating the rights of gun owners?
- Does it seem ridiculous that they want to specifically shut down the manufacturing of firearms that are made with a non-metal substance?
- What about Universal Registration Checks? Do you believe these to be unnecessary and perhaps even a violation of the right to privacy?
- Red Flag laws seem to be coming up in several states these days. Why are so many government types concerned about confiscating firearms from those they deem unfit to own one?
- What about the ongoing discussion surrounding “Glock switches”? Are they really as dangerous as some are saying?
- Where do you see the discussion over gun rights and the Second Amendment going in the months ahead? Will some states continue to try and introduce restrictions based on their terms?
