A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America discusses Seattle’s recent lawsuit against Glock, and why it likely won’t hold water.
The Seattle City Attorney’s Office, rather than accepting responsibility for its own poor actions, have chosen to point a finger at a gun manufacturer for the rise of criminal activity within its city.
According to KOMO News, it has filed a lawsuit against Glock, a gun manufacturer, because it believes its handguns allow for easy illegal modifications to allow fully-automatic gunfire.
City Attorney Ann Davidson noted that these “Glock switches” are playing a part in the increase in gun violence within the state. “When you go to a crime scene now, instead of three or four casings that are recovered, it’s 50, 70. (Glock’s) unique design makes it very easy to, within minutes, very cheaply, change their semi-automatic weapon to a fully automatic weapon.”
The state’s office noted that Glock handguns are creators of a “public nuisance” within the city. It is the latest to try and sue the manufacturer, after similar suits were filed in states like Illinois and Maryland.
But does the problem really lie in the handguns, especially considering the lazy leadership that has led to poor policing in the city of Seattle? Is the Attorney’s Office simply making excuses for their own ineptitude?
A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America – either Mark Jones or Stephen Willeford – joins us now to discuss the new coalition further. We welcome them to the show!
Q&A:
- How much traction do lawsuits like this usually get, anyway? Does a city really have any sort of right to sue a gun manufacturer?
- What does this say about Seattle’s own ineptitude when it comes to containing violence within their city? Especially given how they’ve treated their police departments in the past?
- How do you think Glock will respond to the lawsuit?
- Where do you think “Glock switches” provide the most use when it comes to utilization in handguns?
- How do you think this lawsuit will pan out? Will it likely be thrown out of court? Or could a sentimental judge allow it to proceed?
