The Fight To Save Gaza City (Guest: David Rubin)

The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses Israel’s planned offensive to recapture the city, and what can be done to keep Israeli citizens safe.

It appears that Israel is set to launch some sort of offensive in an effort to take back Gaza City within a matter of days – but some believe that there is simply no safe way to do so.

The Israeli military have already begun plans to move forward into the city in an effort to eradicate Hamas forces that have overtaken the area, following nearly two years of conflict. However, some believe that they won’t be able to do so without mass casualties.

The Red Cross, speaking with CNN, noted that safe mass evacuation would pretty much be “impossible” based on the “current conditions,” while many protestors are pushing for Israel to agree to a ceasefire, rather than move forward with said military initiative.

That said, however, Israel military noted to CNN that their attacks were, in fact, hunting down specific targets, such as a recent one surrounding a “key Hamas terrorist,” and that mitigation techniques were being put in place to reduce harm to civilians.

So what now? Can Israel begin its campaign to reclaim Gaza City? Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.

Q&A:

  3. For the longest time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has believed that the complete elimination of Hamas is necessary for peace. Do you agree with this statement?
  4. There are those that still see possibilities with a ceasefire of some kind. Do you believe this is still attainable? Or has the conflict between Israel and Hamas gone beyond that point?
  5. Where do you see this conflict going in the months ahead, especially as we near the two-year mark for the war as a whole?
  6. Tell us more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund and how it can help those in need.
