The “Best Possible Way” To Peace In Gaza?

Former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin discusses the next steps Netanyahu will take to reclaim Gaza City, and if Arab mediators are doing any good with their latest hostage negotiations.

Even though opinions on his strategy vary, it appears that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is moving forward on his plan to retake Gaza City from Hamas, using military force and other strategies in a big step forward to end the war.

The chief of the IDF noted right before the weekend that the plan to take back the city will be done “in the best possible way,” honoring the decision made by the Prime Minister. This comes in the wake of criticism, with many actually taking to the streets of Tel Aviv to protest over the weekend.

With this happening, Hamas has condemned the move, although Arab mediators believe they can work out some sort of deal to save the remaining hostages from Gaza, in exchange for an end to the war and removal of Israeli soldiers from the Strip. Thus far, such negotiations have been met with an impasse on both sides.

So what happens next? Will this finally bring peace back to Gaza? Or will the situation worsen as Hamas prepares for the next strike? Joining us now to discuss this further is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.

Q&A:

  1. What are your thoughts on Netanyahu’s plan to reclaim Gaza City? Is it a move that could prove to be an effective end to this ongoing conflict with Hamas?
  2. Are you surprised that Hamas has criticized the move? It seems they criticize anything that doesn’t seem to work in their favor these days.
  3. What about those protesting against Netanyahu and believing he’s making a mistake with this plan? What response would you have for them?
  4. What about the Arab mediators who believe they can still find a peaceful plan between Israel and Hamas? Are they wasting their time at this point? Is there anything they can possibly do for the hostage?
  5. Bottom line – how does this end? Will Gaza City be reclaimed? Could the war possible continue for the remainder of the year?
  6. Tell us more about the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund and how it can help those in need.
