Mexico Paying for Wall… of Troops (Guest: Leigh Wambsganss)

Trump Uses Leverage to Force Mexico to Invest Resources to Prevent Illegal Entry into the U.S.

In 2016, Donald Trump was laughed at for saying that Mexico would pay for the wall along America’s border with that country. While the wall is more of a long-term project, in 2025, Trump is unquestionably getting Mexico to pay for a wall of 10,000 troops along the same border. He’s doing so by using the threat of tariffs on Mexico, which would be far more costly to that country that would those 10,000 troops.

This does something else as well. After being in office for well under a month, Trump is showing that his predecessor Joe Biden facilitated the flow of illegal aliens into the U.S. The speed with which Trump is operating unequivocally proves that premise correct.

The crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border continues to be one of the most pressing threats to American sovereignty, security, and economic stability. While the Biden administration failed to take decisive action, former President Donald Trump is once again demonstrating strong leadership by using economic pressure to force Mexico into cooperation.

Recently, Trump negotiated a deal with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, temporarily suspending a 25% tariff on Mexican imports in exchange for Mexico deploying 10,000 National Guard troops to its northern border. This move aims to stem the flood of illegal immigration, combat fentanyl trafficking, and prevent weapons smuggling into Mexico. By using tariffs as a strategic tool, Trump is holding Mexico accountable for its role in the border crisis, reinforcing his long-standing commitment to protecting American citizens.

Tariffs as Leverage for Border Security

For too long, Mexico has benefited from its trade relationship with the United States while turning a blind eye to the cartels operating freely across its borders. President Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on Mexican imports is not just an economic move—it’s a national security strategy. By threatening significant financial consequences, he is forcing Mexico to take responsibility for its lax immigration enforcement, something the Biden administration has refused to do.

This tactic is not new for Trump. During his first term, he successfully pressured Mexico into signing the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which dramatically reduced illegal border crossings. Now, he is applying the same approach, ensuring that Mexico does its part in securing the border rather than allowing mass migration into the U.S. to continue unchecked.

The Biden Administration’s Failure to Act

The contrast between Trump’s decisive action and the Biden administration’s open-border policies couldn’t be clearer. Under Biden, border encounters have surged to historic highs, with over 2.4 million apprehensions in 2023 alone. Meanwhile, sanctuary cities across the country are struggling to handle the influx of illegal migrants, draining local resources and creating public safety concerns. Instead of enforcing immigration laws, Biden has allowed states like Texas to shoulder the burden while Democratic-run cities hypocritically protest when migrants are bused into their communities.

The crisis is no longer just a border-state issue, it’s a nationwide emergency. Trump’s tariff strategy forces Mexico to take immigration enforcement seriously, a move that will have a direct impact on reducing illegal crossings, slowing cartel operations, and ultimately protecting American communities.

Military Reinforcements at the Border

Trump’s strategy doesn’t stop at economic pressure. With Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth planning a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, the role of the U.S. military in border security is becoming more pronounced. Deploying active-duty troops and National Guard forces to assist Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a necessary step to fill the gaps left by Biden’s weak policies.

The American people deserve a government that prioritizes their safety. With drug cartels trafficking deadly fentanyl into our communities and violent criminals slipping through a porous border, it is essential to deploy every available resource to protect the nation. While Biden’s administration continues to undermine law enforcement and border security efforts, Trump is demonstrating how real leadership looks—using tariffs and military resources to put America first.

The Stakes for 2025 and Beyond

The fight for secure borders is far from over, and Trump’s actions highlight what is at stake in the upcoming election. Will America continue down the dangerous path of open-border policies that empower cartels, increase crime, and overwhelm our cities? Or will we return to a strong, America-first approach that prioritizes security, sovereignty, and the rule of law?

Border security is national security, and Trump is proving once again that he is the only leader willing to take bold action to fix the crisis. Through his use of tariffs, military force, and tough negotiations, he is setting the standard for how to secure the border once and for all.
