Wyoming Senate Could Throw Second Amendment Rights Into Chaos

Gun Owners of America Stephen Willeford explains how Senator Ed Cooper’s new legislation could revoke the rights of thousands.

The rights to own a firearm should provide equal protection to everyone, as stated by the Second Amendment of the Constitution. However, one Senator could throw all that out of the window in Wyoming.

When the next Legislative Session takes place in mid-January, Senator Ed Cooper is set to introduce SF0037. It is a legislation that could undermine real efforts to Repeal Gun Free Zones in Wyoming, allowing the state to pick and choose whoever has Second Amendment rights within the state.

“The stated purpose of SF0037 is to provide “some” citizens an opportunity to carry concealed weapons in school zones. The bill gives the Wyoming Attorney General, an unelected position appointed by the Governor, the ability to determine special rules related to Wyoming citizens’ ability to exercise our Second Amendment Rights,” the Gun Owners of America note.

“If this bill passes, an unelected official will decide who can and who cannot have Second Amendment Rights, and Wyoming will take a giant step backwards by allowing for special classes of citizens to have rights while others do not.”

The group is already looking into ways to possibly stop the introduction of SF0037 from going into effect. Joining us now to discuss this situation further is Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen is the “hero with a gun” from the Sutherland Springs incident in 2017, which he has since co-written a book about. We welcome him to the show!
