Why Does the CCP Hate Falun Gong and Shen Yun?

A spokesman for the group discusses a new report that goes in-depth as to why the Chinese Communist Party wants the show shut down.

There have been ongoing efforts both locally and overseas to shut down the ongoing Shen Yun production, which celebrates all things Chinese culture. But the real question is…why?

A new report from the Vision Times shines a bit of a light here. In it, democracy activist and Global Vice Chair of the Federation for a Democratic China Sheng Xue offers some insight as to why the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has such hatred for Shen Yun and its founders, Falun Gong.

Essentially, she noted that the “values represented by these groups — Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance — stand in direct opposition to the CCP’s culture of falsehood, hatred, and violence, posing a profound threat to its ideological control and international propaganda efforts.”

“Falun Gong’s advocacy for Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance completely dismantles the CCP’s culture of lies, hatred, and violence. If more people embrace these values, they will break free from the CCP’s mental and ideological control—a scenario the regime cannot tolerate,” she continued.

As for why international hatred has grown towards the show, Xue noted, “The CCP exploits democratic legal systems in the West to suppress dissenting voices, exposing its desperation and malice.”

With that, a spokesperson for Shen Yun joins us now to discuss this report further, as well as what lies ahead for the show.

FROM FALUN DAFA INFORMATION CENTER

Levi Browde serves as the Executive Director with the New York-based Falun Dafa Information Center – an organization dedicated to ending the human rights abuses against people who practice Falun Gong in China.

A career software entrepreneur, Levi’s life changed dramatically in 1999 when his best friend came to the office one morning and announced the Chinese Communist Party had taken away his mother in Beijing to be tortured and “brainwashed.” This marked the beginning of his volunteer work to defend human rights in China. Two years later, Levi himself was detained in a Chinese jail outside Beijing for secretly meeting with Western reporters and protesting on Tiananmen Square.

Over the past 20 years, Browde has been interviewed and quoted by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Tribune, CNN, the Associated Press, TIME Magazine, BBC, AFP, and other media outlets. He has spoken about Falun Gong and human rights in China at briefings on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, at the United Nations human rights sessions in Geneva, Switzerland.

Browde studied East Asian Studies at Wesleyan University and is an avid supporter of traditional Chinese culture. He founded several software start-ups, and lives in New York with his wife and two sons.
