Will Anti-Gun Types Try To Use the Wisconsin Shooting To Their Advantage? (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

The spokesman for Gun Owners of America discusses the harrowing event, and how it could be used for one last push towards limitations.

The United States is still reeling from the tragic shooting that took place this past Monday at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin. A 15-year old girl managed to kill a teacher and teen student, before injuring others and eventually taking her own life.

While Madison police are still trying to discover a motive, it appears some higher-ups are already trying to spin this situation into one last potential push for gun legislation before Donald Trump takes over the Presidency next month.

President Joe Biden, for example, made it clear that “Congress must pass commonsense gun safety laws,” mentioning universal background checks, a national red flag law, and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. And many fellow Democrats have applauded this, though it’s unknown if any sort of bills will make progress through Congress at this point.

Joining us now to discuss this situation further is Stephen Willeford, who currently serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. Stephen is the “hero with a gun” from the Sutherland Springs incident in 2017, which he has since co-written a book about. We welcome him to the show!

Q&A:

  1. What are your thoughts on what took place in Madison, Wisconsin earlier this week?
  2. Could the situation have been avoided, possibly with someone that practices Constitutional-Carry (or Concealed Carry, as some call it)?
  3. Why do you think so many people are hesitant for the placement of Constitutional-Carry citizens in several states? Are they really that concerned over the presence of guns?
  4. What do you think about Biden trying to use the situation to push for “commonsense gun safety laws” with what took place?
  5. With that, what do you think will happen when President Trump takes office in early 2025? Will he fight to keep gun rights safe?
  6. You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
  7. Where can people find your book?
    1. You can purchase the book here on Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle format.
  8. Where can we learn more about you, as well as Gun Owners of America?
    1. You can learn more at http://www.thebarefootdefender.com. You can also read more about the Gun Owners of America at https://www.gunowners.org/
