Seattle Is Still Adamant Against Gun Violence, and Yet Its Police Division Can’t Even Keep Track of Them

A Second Amendment Foundation spokesman discusses the error, coming at a critical time for the city.

Seattle has been a long-time adamant force against gun rights, making stern rules in the hopes of keeping guns out of easy reach (requiring being locked up) and trying to rid the streets of stolen firearms. But it’s just made an error that will push them further into a negative spotlight – and at just the worst time, too.

According to this report, the Seattle Police have reported to the Office of the Washington State Auditor, stating that it has “lost” 23 guns. What’s worse, they haven’t been accounted for since 2017.

This follows a case in which a teen was about to walk out of the department’s firearms storage with a gun back in 2019.

Patrick Michaud, who serves as spokesman for the police, noted that it’s not “uncommon” for guns to go missing. “We’re going to do our best to ensure that we do better,” Michaud noted. “Until we find them, we’re going to keep looking for them.”

But what does this say about a state that’s been trying to lock down the rights for private owner gun laws for some time now? That things may be in further disarray than expected.

A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss the matter further. They firmly believe in everyone’s right to bear arms, making them an ideal guest for this interview.

Q&A:

  1. How do you think the police managed to “misplace” firearms that were supposed to be in their possession?
  2. This comes on the heels of Seattle trying to tighten up gun laws in an effort to keep their streets safe. Does this push seem a bit ironic now considering what happened?
  3. How dangerous would you say “missing” guns are, especially in a state overrun with violence?
  4. You’ve often proposed that restrictive gun laws aren’t a good way to quell ongoing violence. Instead, you believe that the passage of Concealed-Carry is a better way to go. Why do you think this would be a better solution?
  5. For those that would argue that Concealed-Carry would put even more guns out into public, what would be your counter-argument to that?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation?
