Founder of Reconnecting Ministries Grant Berry believes the network has some house cleaning to do when it comes to antisemitism.
There’s a lot of questionability when it comes to how some media outlets are attempting to cover the Israel/Hamas war without bias. But if any particular network has come under fire, it’s the BBC.
During a recent session for staff held by BBC director-general Tim Davie, several Jewish staff members have complained of widespread antisemitism. In fact, Danny Cohen, who had served as BBC’s director from 2013-2015, noted that the network’s coverage of the war was “a complete failure of both journalistic credibility and public duty.”
While the network hasn’t made any sweeping changes to its coverage, it is trying to save face in certain areas. The network recently fired a senior scheduling coordinator for making vile comments on Facebook, including calling Jews “lying scum” and even comparing Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, to Adolf Hitler.
But is this enough, or does the network – and general media as a whole – need to do more to put antisemitism in its place?

- Why do you believe it’s so hard for some media outlets to be “fair and balanced” when it comes to what’s happening with antisemitism?
- Do you believe the media may thrive on antisemitism in an effort to get views? Or is there another strategy that we seem to be missing here?
- Based on this specific example, are Jews really as persecuted as they claim to be?
- What more do you believe can be done when it comes to antisemitism, and making outlets see more of the “bigger picture” when it comes to what’s happening overseas?
- Do you see antisemitism getting worse as the year goes on? Could it possibly be such a “hot topic” that it somehow gets addressed during the 2024 Presidential Election?
