Gun Owners of America spokesman Stephen Willeford explains why Alabama’s latest law is a triumph.
As 2023 began, so too did a new precedent for states allowing Constitutional-Carry, enabling private citizens to conceal-carry firearms without a license. Business Insider revealed that Alabama has become the latest state to allow citizens to carry handguns without permits, making it the 25th state to do so.
Many states have passed this law in an effort to thwart “active shooter” events, which have increased dramatically over the past few years. Furthermore, a recent study from Center for American Progressconfirmed that states with weaker gun laws saw an increase in homicides.
Joining us now to discuss the passing of the new law is Stephen Willeford, a spokesman for the Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is welcome in this matter.

- 25 states in the U.S. now allow for Constitutional-Carry. Would you call this a success considering where it was back in 2010 with only two states allowing it?
- Why do you think so many states have acted quickly to get Constitutional-Carry laws passed, including Alabama?
- What do you think about the study where states with weaker gun laws are seeing an increase in homicides?
- Some people may think that Constitutional-Carry is a dangerous thing to pass, “putting more guns on the street.” What would be your counter-argument to this statement?
