A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation discusses the possibilities for when the re-elected President retakes power in January.
With re-elected President Donald Trump set to take office again next month, many people are talking about the changes he’s looking to make within the administration.
With that, some are wondering about the fate of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), especially considering the strict gun policies it’s attempted to put in place over the past couple of years under current President Joe Biden.
Some believe that a shutdown of the agency would make sense. However, a new opinion piece by The Reload suggests that gun advocates would benefit from an agency reconfigured under the watch of Trump, or whoever he decides to head the group.
“Instead of using their political capital to try and dismantle the ATF, gun advocates would likely see more success working within the system. While federal firearms laws cannot be repealed by executive action, they still delegate significant power to the Attorney General (who subdelegates to ATF) on how the laws are implemented. The Trump Administration could shift many ATF policies in their favor.”
Trump has yet to mention the ATF when it comes to his current cabinet picks, but there are several weeks ahead before he retakes office in late January.
