The law enforcement veteran discusses Cheatle’s resignation, and how the agency can get better from here.
It’s very clear that the Secret Service failed to do their job when a would-be assassin tried to kill former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally over a week ago.
Following an Oversight Committee meeting that went disastrously wrong (due to a lack of answers on her part), U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has tendered her resignation, noting that the decision came with a “heavy heart.”
But House Speaker Mike Johnson, like many others, believe it was long overdue. “Now we have to pick up the pieces,” he noted. “We have to rebuild the American people’s faith and trust in the Secret Service as an agency. It has an incredibly important responsibility in protecting presidents, former presidents, and other officials in the executive branch, and we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
So what happens now? Joining us to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt.
