With Dozens of Soldiers Surrendering, Is This a Turning Point For Israel? (Guest: David Rubin)

The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the recent statement made by Netanyahu, and what this means for the country’s initiative.

An interesting new development has arisen in the battle between Israel and Hamas, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu making note of some surprising surrenders.

In a statement on Sunday, Netanyahu reported that dozens of militants have surrendered from Hamas’ side, noting that this is “the beginning of the end” for them.

“They lay down their weapons and surrender themselves to our heroic warriors,” Netanyahu stated. “It will take more time, the war is in full swing, (but) I say to the Hamas terrorists it is over. Don’t die for Sinwar. Surrender − now.”

This is an interesting development in the face of U.S. Israel’s vetoing of an immediate cease fire by the U.N. Security Council. But the question is what happens now.

But it doesn’t appear Israel is backing down, as it will increase the intensity of its attacks on Hamas in southern Gaza, slowly completing its conquest of northern Gaza.

Helping us answer this question is David Rubin, former mayor of Shiloh, Israel, and Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. Welcome, Mayor Rubin.

Q&A:

  1. With this news, is Israel planning on waiting under the full conquest of Gaza, and then unleashing its full arsenal on Hezbollah and Iran?
  2. Are you surprised at how quickly Hamas responded to Netanyahu’s statement, in an effort to show it was still strong with this conflict?
  3. Does Netanyahu have the backing of the Israeli public for his plan to stop Hamas?
  4. What are your thoughts on what the public is stating about the “next steps” that Israel will take for victory? Do you believe the Biden administration will show any support for this plan, or continue to push for the U.N. Security Council’s ceasefire solution?
  5. What is planned for Gaza after Israel has gained full control over this strategic region?
  6. Where do you see the conflict between Israel and Hamas going as 2024 looms?
