Why Is California Forcing Dealers To Put Up Ridiculous Warnings About Guns?

A spokesman for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms discusses the unnecessary warnings, and why California is so out of hand with them.

Some warnings just don’t need to be given, especially when it’s surrounding something so obvious. But you’d be surprised how many states pass requirements to provide the warnings anyway.

For instance, California recently passed a new law that forcibly requires gun dealers to provide potential buyers with a pamphlet that warns them about the dangers of owning a gun. With that, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) have noted that this new law amounts to “legislative social bigotry.”

Alan Gottlieb, Chairman for the CCRKBA, noted,  “This new law, AB 1598, is just another effort by anti-gun Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom to discourage Californians from exercising their constitutional right to become gun owners. At what point do Californians tell lawmakers in Sacramento they’ve had enough of Democrats’ dishonest demagoguery? Demonizing guns is a deceptive strategy designed to fool people into believing something is being done to prevent violent crime, when the opposite is true.

“Why not force car dealers to provide a pamphlet to each customer, telling them about the dangers of driving,” Gottlieb continued. “Owning a car, especially in California, is more dangerous than owning a gun. More people were killed in traffic accidents in 2023, the most recent year for which data is available, than from gunshot wounds that year. But nowhere in the Golden State are car dealers being forced to hand out pamphlets warning motorists that getting behind the wheel is hazardous to their health.”

He concluded, “All this proves Gavin Newsom and his Democrat colleagues aren’t really interested in saving lives. They’re interested in reducing gun ownership by discouraging people from buying guns, and forcing gun dealers to act as their surrogates in the process. It’s really pathetic.”

A spokesman for the CCRKBA joins us now to discuss the situation further. We welcome them to the show.

Q&A:

  1. Why would Gov. Newsom and his Administration stoop so low as to force these pamphlets to be handed out to potential gun buyers?
  2. Do you think such pamphlets will discourage someone from purchasing a firearm, hence causing said gun dealers to lose a sale?
  3. Is it possible that Gov. Newsom could inspire other states to do the same with their pamphlets? Colorado, perhaps?
  4. Could there be any sort of legal action that gun advocacy groups, such as yours, could take to stop the distribution of said pamphlets?
  5. Where do you see the argument surrounding gun control going this year, especially as Donald Trump re-enters the Presidential office?
  6. Where can people call in to pledge their support to the CCRKBA?
    1. The number to support the group is (800) 699-0992.
  7. Where can we learn more about the CCRKBA and its members?
