Democrat Vice Presidential Candidate Wants Voters to See Him Supporting Gun Rights While Looking Uncomfortable Handling His Own Gun
It seems like every election cycle, Democrats don their hunting gear with a gun, stand in a field and get photographed. The point is to show the pro-second amendment voters that the candidate is on their side. Enter Democrat Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz.
He’s the latest politician to engage in the practice, but with a confusing twist. In addition to supposedly hunting for pheasant for several hours and coming up completely empty, a short video of Walz posted on social media showed him appearing completely confused about how to handle his shotgun, appearing unfamiliar with it, despite saying he’s owned it for years.
At a recent campaign stop, Walz asserted, “I know guns, I’m a veteran… we defend the Second Amendment.” However, his performance raised eyebrows, as many viewers questioned his authenticity and competence with firearms. The optics were less than favorable; what was meant to be a demonstration of solidarity with gun owners turned into a potential liability.
Perhaps Walz should have stuck to photos, avoiding the video that captured his apparent lack of comfort with the weapon. This misstep could alienate not only seasoned gun owners but also those voters who prioritize genuine connections over mere photo ops. As the campaign unfolds, it will be crucial for Walz to demonstrate not just a rhetorical commitment to the Second Amendment but also a tangible understanding of the culture surrounding it.
Perhaps Walz should have stopped with photos, instead of a video that showed him looking completely unfamiliar with the gun he was holding.
A spokesman for the group joins us now to discuss the stance of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on gun rights.
