Is Joe Biden banning the import of Russian bullets to spike ammo prices? It looks that way, as a press release on the Dept. of State website says, “new and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial.”
Americans are facing probably the greatest ammunition shortage ever and the Biden administration sees this as an opportunity for de-facto gun control. The administration is imposing sanctions banning the importation of Russian ammo based on the “Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act of 1991 (CBW Act) set to go into effect on Sept. 7, 2021.
Rep. Michael Cloud and 28 other Representatives sent a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of State today urging the Biden administration to reverse the ban on Russian ammo.
“Amidst a national ammo shortage, both gun owners and shooting facilities have come to rely on imports to maintain ammunition availability and affordability. And so the Biden administration has initiated this gun control, attempting to make ammo more expensive—indeed cost prohibitive—for gun owners to exercise their right to keep and bear arms. Gun Owners of America considers this ban as an infringement on the Second Amendment—where the administration is bypassing Congress to implement gun control.”Aidan Johnston, Director of Federal Affairs for Gun Owners of America.
At first glance this may appear to only affect sportsmen and competitive shooters, however the real implications are affecting rural police departments who buy their ammo off the shelf like the rest of America. This is pure politics and gun control because through this law ammunition is now restricted for import, along with Russian weapons.
Experts predict that it will be well into next year before ammo supplies return to pre-pandemic normal.
