These Young Gun Owners Are Challenging Hawaii’s Unfair Gun Laws – and For Good Reason

A spokesman for the Gun Owners of America believes that Hawaii should take a closer look at its law, preventing young people’s right to bear arms.

Hawaii’s gun laws never really made much sense, especially how they rebuke the decision made by the U.S. Supreme Court surrounding gun rights. And now, a pair of potential young gun owners are challenging the state’s unfair stance on said rights.

Elijah Pinales, 19, and Juda Roache, 17, filed a lawsuit against the state, noting they wish to own guns for self-defense purposes. They believe Hawaii’s laws violate their Second Amendment rights, due to an unconstitutional restriction. What’s more, Roache’s mother has also lent her support for her child.

At the moment, Hawaii’s law requires a person to be 21 to purchase a firearm. But the duo believe it unfairly shuts them out.

Joining us now to discuss these laws further is a spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, a group that firmly believes in everyone’s right to bear arms.

Sam Parades is available to speak on this subject, serving as Executive Director of the Gun Owners of America.

Stephen Willeford, the 2017 “hero with a gun” who serves as the spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, is also available.

Q&A:

  1. Why is Hawaii so strict when it comes to some of their gun laws?
  2. Why do you believe they are rebuking what the U.S. Supreme Court has put in place when it comes to its gun laws?
  3. Do these two youths have the right to bear arms? Especially with the younger one having the support of their mother?
  4. Do you believe this lawsuit stands a fair chance, especially with the Second Amendment of the Constitution in place?
  5. FOR STEPHEN: You recently wrote a book called A Town Called Sutherland Springs: Faith and Heroism Through Tragedy, revolving around your 2017 “hero with a gun” situation. Tell us more about how this came together, and why it’s such an important read right now.
