The former Mayor of Shiloh discusses the reasoning behind the veto, and why it makes sense.
The UN Security Council has been trying to draw up a resolution for a ceasefire within the Gaza Strip in Israel, in the hopes of stopping bloodshed between the country and the opposing forces of Hezbollah and Iran. However, the United States didn’t seem too keen on the solution.
While most of the UN Security Council’s members voted in favor of the resolution, the U.S. voted against, using its veto to block the resolution from taking place.
And why? An official noted, “As we stated many times before, we just can’t support an unconditional ceasefire that does not call for the immediate release of hostages.” There was also some question as to whether Hamas would face any sort of punishment for their actions back on October 7th, which resulted in the death of hundreds of innocent people.
Israel’s United Nations representative Danny Danon supported the move, noting “The resolution brought before this chamber was not a path of peace. It was a roadmap to more terror, more suffering, and more bloodshed.” He would also thank the U.S. for “standing on the side of morality and justice.”
While the move will no doubt create uneasiness within the UN Security Council, former Mayor of Shiloh David Rubin believes it was right. Rubin, who currently serves as the Founder of the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund as well, joins us now to discuss the matter further. His expertise in all things Israel make him a great guest for this show. Welcome, David!
