The FBI’s Continued Failures With Its Larry Nassar Investigation Are Too Big To Ignore (Guest: Michael Letts)

The law enforcement veteran discusses the horrendous failures by the agency, and how they hurt Nassar’s victims – mostly children.

For several years now, many have been critical over the actions of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI for short). And a new report reveals just how badly it’s doing.

recent audit by the Justice Department’s inspector general revealed just how badly it bungled an investigation into former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. The inspector general looked at a number of cases surrounding Nassar and found “significant issues” with the FBI’s response to the matter – including several cases involving suspected sexual abuse of children.

“In the incidents we reviewed, we found no evidence that FBI employees complied with mandatory reporting requirements to SLTT law enforcement in 47 percent of incidents or to social service agencies in 50 percent of incidents,” the report reads.

Furthermore, the FBI used its Guardian computer system to look further into Nassar. But apparently, that system wasn’t up to code.

“We found the FBI does not document and process all incoming tips and allegations within Guardian, and 40 percent of the incidents we reviewed did not include evidence that the FBI responded to an allegation involving active or ongoing child sexual abuse within 24 hours as required by FBI guidance.”

While the report suggests where the FBI can make improvements, it’s clear that major work will need to be done to do right by these victims.

Joining us now to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various programs.

Letts’ expertise in all things law and order make him a great guest on this subject. Welcome, Michael!

Q&A:

  1. Where do you think the failures of the FBI began? With the Donald Trump Mar-a-Lago raid? Or well before that?
  2. Reading this report, what are your thoughts on the FBI failing all these children that are victims of sexual abuse?
  3. Why do you think the FBI “cut corners”, so to speak, when it came to this investigation? Was it the ineptitude of director Christopher Wray? Or is this the work of other agents?
  4. The report suggests where the FBI can make changes, but is that enough? Is it time for Wray to resign and the FBI to reshuffle entirely?
  5. What about the investigations revolving around Nassar? What can be done to “right the wrongs,” so to speak?
  6. Tell us more about InVest USA, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about InVest USA, and how those interested can help their fellow officers.
    1. You can visit our official InVest USA website, and learn more on the official Invest USA Twitter account. You can also learn about my new initiative at RestoringJustice.US, where we discuss lawful issues surrounding citizens of the United States.
