Supreme Court Ruling Could Free Nearly 250 J-6ers!!! (Guest: Michael Letts)

(Guest: Michael Letts)

The law enforcement veteran responds to prosecutorial overreach and the High Court’s return to sanity.

By a 6-3 majority, the Supreme Court ruled Friday that statutes originally intended to prosecute financial crimes may not be applied against individuals charged with obstructing official proceedings in the January 6th broaching of the U.S. Capitol.

This narrow reading of the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley law led a majority of the justices to toss out this charge against hundreds of supporters of President Trump. Most of them had just attended a mass outdoor rally in his support and took their concerns into the Capitol building.

Even though this January 6th charge will be dropped, many defendants face additional charges or convictions related to the day’s events.

Former President Donald Trump was among those charged under the misapplied Sarbanes Oxley statute, and his lawyers are expected to ask for a dismissal of charges. However, Prosecutor Jack Smith claims other charges against Trump should be allowed to stand despite this narrow legal reading.

Meanwhile, Trump’s supporters are holding their breath for still another Supreme Court decision, expected Monday, which could grant the former chief executive sweeping presidential immunity for acts conducted in office. A positive ruling from the court may shut down multiple criminal cases currently pending against Trump.

Joining us now to discuss this further is Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Letts is President, Founder and CEO of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. His expertise in all things law and order make him a great guest for this topic. Welcome, Michael.

Q&A:

  1. Why did the Justice Department choose to use this arcane statute against the defendants on January 6th in the first place? Do you consider it legal overreach?
  2. The application of this statute was also used in Prosecutor Jack Smith’s case against former President Trump in Florida. Will this Supreme Court decision be enough to get his case tossed out of court?
  3. How could the pending High Court decision on Presidential Immunity impact all federal cases filed against President Trump?
  4. When will that decision be released and what kind of impact on the Presidential campaign do you expect that ruling to have?
  5. You are a former police officer. What effect has the ongoing “lawfare” campaign against former President Trump had on the morale of the law enforcement community when so many violent criminals are let off with barely a slap on the hand?
  6. You’re the creator of InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to police officers through various charitable groups and sponsorships. Tell us more about that, and why support for fellow officers is so important right now.
  7. Where can we learn more about InVest USA, and how those interested can help their fellow officers.
  8. You can visit our official InVest USA website, and learn more on the official Invest USA Twitter account. You can also learn about my new initiative at RestoringJustice.US, where we discuss lawful issues surrounding citizens of the United States.
