The Founder of Reconnecting Ministries discusses the latest announcement by the U.S., and what impact it could have on Israel.
Israel’s efforts to try and expand settlements into the West Bank just hit a major brick wall.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke right before the weekend, announcing that the U.S. would reverse the previous administration’s position on said settlements. He noted that they are “inconsistent with international law,” or rather, illegal.
“Our administration maintains firm opposition to settlement expansion,” Blinken explained during a news conference on Friday. “In our judgment, this only weakens — it doesn’t strengthen — Israel’s security.”
The settlement would have approved 3,000 new homes to be built in the West Bank area, which was announced following an attack by Palestinian gunmen on the existing Maale Adumim settlement.
White House spokesman John Kirby added, “We are simply reaffirming the fundamental conclusion that these settlements are inconsistent with international law. This is a position that has been consistent over a range of Republican and Democratic administrations — if there’s an administration that is being inconsistent, it was the previous one.”
So what happens now? Will Israel retaliate, and will the U.S. continue to double down on its reversed policy? Joining us to discuss this further is Grant Berry, the Founder of Reconnecting Ministries and the host of the Romans 911 Podcast. He also worked on the book Romans 911: Time To Sound the Alarm!, which is available now. His expertise on all things Israel make him an ideal subject for this interview. Welcome, Mr. Berry.
