A spokesman for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms explains the importance of said challenge.
The Supreme Court of the United States has recently distributed the case of Snope v. Brown, brought to their attention by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, as part of a challenge against Maryland’s ban on “assault weapons”.
The case, which was previously granted certiorari back in June 2022, when a high court vacated an appeals court ruling and sent it back to the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court for further action. But since that court made the “fundamentally erroneous” decision to support the ban, the CCRKBA has once again called for the Supreme Court to look at the case for review.
“We’re definitely hopeful the high court agrees to take this case again and schedules oral arguments soon,” said CCRKBA Managing Director Andrew Gottlieb in a statement. “An affirmative ruling by the Court which settles the question whether modern semiautomatic rifles are protected by the Second Amendment will have a far-reaching impact across the country. A decision that removes any doubt about the right of the people to keep and bear modern rifles is long overdue.
“Frankly,” Gottlieb continued, “considering the emphasis anti-gunners place on the reference to the militia within the Second Amendment, it would clearly protect such firearms. The gun ban lobby obviously didn’t think their argument through very far. ”
Though a ruling has yet to be decided, all eyes on what will happen next, as it could affect similar gun bans in other states, such as California or Washington.
