Psilocybin Study May Lead to Anxiety Disorder Treatment

Dr. Chris Becker is available by Zoom, Skype or Phone

Intro: New clinical trials exploring the medicinal properties of psilocybin may lead to its widespread use treating anxiety disorders.

Joining us to discuss both the emerging use of psychedelic psilocybin mushrooms is Dr. Chris Becker, author of the new book, “Healing with Psychedelics.”

Q&A:

  1. Dr. Becker, what state are we at with the current medical studies of psilocybin for the treatment of Anxiety?
  1. How dangerous, in your opinion, is psilocybin for the normal healthy person?
  1. Why is psilocybin illegal currently and what type of penalties are there for its nonprescribed use?
  1. Are there any natural, perhaps milder hallucinogenics for treatment of anxiety if someone did not want to take the more power chemical lysergic acid diethylamide, otherwise known as psilocybin?
  1. The protracted Covid-19 pandemic has contributed to a spike in prescriptions for anti-anxiety and anti-depression drugs, as well as causing sustained emotional stress and uncertainty for millions of people. If psilocybin mushrooms were legal and more readily available, how might that impact sales of current anti-anxiety and anti-depression meds?
  1. Do you believe ‘Magic Mushrooms” or other psychedelics should be legalized for the public?
  1. In your book, “Healing with Psychedelics,” you write about your personal healing journey, revealing details of your own experience with psychedelic-assisted sacred-medicine therapy. Tell us about your experience.
  1. In addition to using psychedelics, you also wrote chronicled first-hand accounts of your spiritual experiences and meditation practices in your healing journey—or is it fair to call it a healing ‘trip’?
  1. How addictive are psychedelics, if at all, and is there any documentation that their use can get someone un-addicted to hard drugs? How has the psychedelic experience changed from the hippie days of the 60s until now?
  1. In your book, “Healing with Psychedelics,” you included poems your publisher says sings to the heart of the reader and their unconscious. Did you write any of those poems while under the influence of psychedelics?
  1. Where is your book available for purchase?
