President Joe Biden Demands Action on Assault Rifles, But Is It the Definitive Solution? (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

Following yet another shooting this week in Tulsa that resulted in the death of five people, President Joe Biden has decided enough is enough when it comes to gun violence in the United States, calling for a full-on ban of so-called assault weapons.

“For God’s sake, how much more carnage are we willing to accept?” Biden asked during his plea, calling for multiple measures opposed by many in Congress that would stop the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as the minimal age to buy weapons to be raised from 18 to 21.

Despite Biden’s push that “we can’t fail the American people again,” some people are already questioning his actions. In fact, the National Rifle Association believes “this isn’t a real solution” to the problem.

Here to provide better perspective on the issues with Biden’s solution is Stephen Willeford. Stephen serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may also recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise will provide some insight to this matter.

  1. What would you say is the biggest problem with Biden’s solution to simply outright ban guns and high-capacity magazines?
  2. The NRA seems highly opposed to this statement, stating that “this isn’t a real solution.” What do you believe would be a better solution to slowing or even stopping mass shootings like we’ve seen in Buffalo and Uvalde?
  3. How much opposition do you believe Biden’s proposed solution will see? No doubt gun owners probably won’t be too happy with being told what weapons they can and can’t possess.
  4. Biden has noted that the second amendment in the U.S. Constitution, the right to bear arms, is not “absolute.” Do you believe that this is the case, or is he going too far?
  5. Do you believe that Biden’s actions could cause further division in government? What should he be doing instead to resolve the matter?
  6. Where can we learn more about you and your current work with the Gun Owners of America?
