President Biden’s Push To Ban Assault Weapons Before Congress Reconvenes In January Could Be Going Too Far (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

Gun Owners of America spokesperson Stephen Willeford explains why the President’s new initiative could be bad news for private gun owners.

Following a pair of active shooter events from the previous week, President Joe Biden vowed to push his proposed “assault weapons” ban through Congress – even before they officially reconvene in January.

“The idea (that) we still allow semiautomatic weapons to be purchased is sick, it’s just sick. It has no social redeeming value, zero, none. Not a single, solitary rationale for it,” he explained to reporters in Massachusetts last week.

“I’m going to try. I’m going to try to get rid of assault weapons,” he continued. “I’m going to do it whenever – I’ve got to make that assessment as soon as I get in and start counting the votes.”

The question, however, is how this affects private gun owners, as well as just how effective an “assault weapons” ban would be overall compared to other solutions, such as Constitutional-Carry.

With us now to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, who serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise is certainly welcome in this matter.

Q&A:

  1. Do you think President Biden is being irrational in his continued push to get an “assault weapons” ban passed through Congress?
  2. Do you believe he’s simply using the recent events that have taken place for motivation, and not doing enough research in terms of just how effective a ban on “assault weapons” would be?
  3. As a gun owner yourself, what does this say about your right to bear arms? How will such a ban affect private gun owners?
  4. You’ve noted in the past that Constitutional-Carry would be a far greater solution to resolving active shooter events compared to an “assault weapons” ban. Why do you think this is the case?
  5. There are some out there that believe an “assault weapons” ban would be useless, especially considering how easy they are to get in pawn shops and online. Do you think this is the case?
  6. Where can we learn more about you, as well as the Gun Owners of America?
