President Biden’s New “Green” Initiative On Appliances Are About To Be a Big Problem For Consumers, Costing More Money and Offering Less Features (Guest: Kevin Stocklin)

Kevin Stocklin, an investigative reporter for The Epoch Times, explains why this issue with the consumer appliance market should be of major concern.

In an effort to be more “earth-friendly,” President Biden’s new initiative on consumer appliances could soon be way more brutal.

In a new report filed over at The Epoch Times, investigative reporter Kevin Stocklin explains how a pledge by Biden’s administration will now lead to consumers having to pay more for products that actually do way less.

With the new regulations, the Department of Energy (DOE) are looking to introduce more electric initiatives to appliances, but also intend to do away with older ones, including gas stoves. The White House noted that the initiative, introduced late last year, would “strengthen energy efficiency standards for a range of appliances and equipment to lower costs for American families.”

Not everyone, however, sees it that way. O.H. Skinner, executive director for the Alliance for Consumers, noted some of the burden that consumer groups were discovering with this plan. “You’re seeing, just in the last few months, new rules from the Biden administration about clothes washers, dishwashers, and other kinds of kitchen appliances, and in every case, you’re talking about a tightening of already very, very tight standards.”

Along with a higher cost to comply with such standards, these new appliances could actually do far less than current ones on the market. And, according to House Republicans, they’re nothing more than “a blatant back door attempt to ban gas appliances enjoyed by millions of Americans.” 

What’s more, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti also made note of the initiative, teaming up with other state attorneys to write a scathing letter to DOE Secretary Jennifer Granholm. “The administration’s plan to micromanage people’s choices of everyday kitchen appliances will result in fewer choices, less functionality, and higher costs for consumers.”

  1. Why is Biden so hellbent on pushing green initiatives across the board instead of “sticking with what works”? Is he taking offers from companies trying to push new technology? Or does his firmly believe the gas-powered ones are creating harm to the planet?
  2. Do you firmly believe that more research should have been put into the initiative to see what long-term effects they have, especially on Americans that are already feeling the economic crunch of the past few years?
  3. Why would the appliances actually have less features? Is it just something about the way they’re built? Or something specific in terms of needing to upgrade to something new?
  4. Do you see any sort of backlash coming from this initiative, especially as some consumers and companies try to hang on to appliances that they know will work well for them?
