President Biden Is Once Again Calling For a Ban On Assault Weapons Following the Maine Tragedy – But It’s Not the Right Solution

A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation explains why an all-out ban wouldn’t calm the violence surrounding “active shooter” events.

Many are still reeling from the devastating “active shooter” event that took place in Maine, where a lone gunmen killed 18 people and injured many others. But President Biden is using the matter to once again push for an all-out “ban” on “assault weapons.”

The President sent a message to Congress on Thursday, noting that lawmakers must “fulfill their duty to protect the American people” with a ban.

“Work with us to pass a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, to enact universal background checks, to require safe storage of guns, and end immunity from liability for gun manufacturers,” he noted in his statement.

While many see this as a bold statement, there’s a problem. It’s not the best solution to solving the problem.

The issue will likely continue to divide Congress, with many believing the same thing pro-gun groups do – “banning” these weapons won’t quell the violence. In fact, it goes against the Second Amendment, which give people the right to bear arms.

So what can be done in situations such as this? A representative for the Second Amendment Foundation joins us now to discuss this further.

Q&A:

  1. Why, in your words, do you believe Biden’s proposed “assault weapons” ban wouldn’t stop the ongoing violence in this country?
  2. The President has been on the attack against “assault weapons” for some time now, instead of seeking out alternate solutions. Is he simply not interested in seeing what these other solutions can do?
  3. You’ve been a huge advocate of Concealed-Carry (Constitutional-Carry in some states) for some time now. What makes it such an effective tool against “active shooter” types?
  4. Why do you think Biden – and his coordinating government offices – don’t talk much about the effectiveness of Concealed-Carry? Is he really that concerned about more guns being “on the street” as it were?
  5. Do you believe the proposed “assault weapons” ban will be a huge topic when it comes to the 2024 Presidential Election? Could it come back to harm Biden in his re-election bid if the Second Amendment comes into discussion?
  6. Where can we learn more about the Second Amendment Foundation and its members?
