Potential “Alarmed” Reaction To Pending Supreme Court Rule Over Easing Up On Concealed Weapons Rule Leaves Questions Over What Kind of Protection They’re Looking For (Guest: Stephen Willeford)

The Supreme Court is taking a close look at providing less restrictions on concealed weapons, in an effort to provide certain citizens protection against mass shooters. But not everyone seems keen on the idea of passing such a law.

Eric Adams, who currently serves as mayor of New York, believes that lightening up on such restrictions is a disaster in the making. Speaking with the New York Daily News, he explained, “It keeps me up at night. We have some of the most stringent gun permitting laws. I’m extremely concerned about this. My legal team is talking to other cities to determine how we can come together to prepare for this ruling.”

Adams is reportedly working on putting limits in place for certain weapons, noting rising crime statistics behind his reasoning. That said, some believe that Adams is more talk about action, believing he’s relying more on media sensation than actually putting criminal safety in place.

Here to provide better perspective on Mayor Adams’ stance is Stephen Willeford. Stephen serves as a spokesman for Gun Owners of America. You may also recall in 2017 how he stopped the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting, acting as the “good guy with a gun.” His expertise will provide some insight to this matter.

  1. Do you think Mayor Adams has any reasoning with his concerns? Perhaps he’s overlooking that crime rates in his city may continue to rise outside his reach? Or the Supreme Court could be opening a door to a solution to mass shootings?
  2. You’ve spoken quite a bit on the potential of open carry amongst citizens to slow mass shootings. How effective do you believe the Supreme Court’s pending decision will be?
  3. What do you think pushed the Supreme Court to ease concealed carry rules?
  4. Mayor Adams says the Supreme Court’s decision “keeps him up at night.” Do you believe he should be supporting the decision instead, and focusing on which people would be ideal for the concealed carry rule? Could this be an example of how some people perceive him as “all talk”?
  5. With the Supreme Court stepping in, could you see individual states showing more interest in open carry or concealed carry? Or perhaps testing them out to see what good they can do?
  6. Where can we learn more about you and your current work with the Gun Owners of America, as well as your “good guy with a gun” story?
