Suggested introduction: A new Rasmussen poll on guns shows that the majority of Americans think we should enforce existing laws, not enact new ones.
This survey shows the widening chasm between the Biden administration and the public it serves.
According to Rasmussen, 63 percent of American adults “believe the United States needs stricter enforcement of existing gun control laws.” In comparison, only 28 percent disagree, constituting a better than 2-to-1 margin against the Biden agenda.
Joining us in this discussion is a representative from The Second Amendment Foundation.
Q&A:
- Joe Biden was recently in New York pushing for additional restrictions on gun owners, repeal of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, and a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and original capacity magazines. How have the people responded?
Answer: Joe Biden’s push for gun control is a dud. To quote the famous song ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone’ by Peter, Paul, and Mary, ‘When will they ever learn?’ Biden is old enough to remember the folk trio, but we’re not sure if he does.
- You’ve been running a counter-information of your own. Tell us about that.
Answer: We have been running an informational campaign explaining Biden’s gun control agenda. We are using Biden’s own words against him. During a CNN Townhall broadcast, Biden said, “Whether it is a 9mm pistol or a rifle, it is ridiculous. I am continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things.”
- Can you break down the Rasmussen survey for us?
Answer: The Rasmussen poll showed that only 42 percent of Americans want stricter gun control laws, while 49 percent say such laws aren’t necessary. The same survey found that 54 percent think enforcement of existing laws will do more to reduce gun-related violent crime, while 26 percent want new gun laws and 18 percent aren’t sure. The survey also breaks down sentiments along party lines, revealing 69 percent of Republicans, 53 percent of Independents, and even 28 percent of Democrats say the country does not need stricter gun laws.
- Regardless of the people being more for gun rights than against, you don’t believe that should be the deciding point. Tell us about that.
Answer: Correct. It’s the 2nd Amendment of the United States that rules the day, not the swaying wind of public opinion. But it is nice to have public opinion on our side also.
- Your organization emphasizes the importance of gun safety and proper training. Could you elaborate on those areas, please?
- Tell us more about the Second Amendment Foundation? And where may we get more information on gun safety and training?
