New Poll: Americans believe China has Surpassed the U.S. Economically

According to a new poll, the majority of Americans believe China is economically more powerful than the United States. The nationwide survey from the Chicago Council on Global Affairs found that protecting U.S. jobs ranks ahead of other American foreign policy priorities, even fighting global pandemics, or fighting so-called climate change.

The poll showed 40 percent believe China is currently stronger economically. Only 27 percent thought the United States was stronger. 31 percent said both nations are about equal.

This compares with the same group’s 2019 survey finding Americans saying the United States was significantly stronger.

A Gallup Poll saw a 13% decline in Americans saying the United States was the strongest economic power, with China gaining 11%, in just the last year.

Joining us to discuss this eye-opening shift is Blake Harbin, CEO of Houzzle Financial.

Q&A:

1.       40% for China. 27% for the United States and 31% the same. This isn’t even close. China just skunked us. What happened?

2.       It’s been said that statistics don’t lie, but statisticians do. We all know that polls can sway somewhat. For instance, the Pew Research Center showed different results in a mid-2020 survey showing 52 percent of Americans ranking the United States is the leading economic power in the world vs 32 percent choosing chose China. What gives?

3.       These surveys were conducted before Biden abruptly withdrew U.S. troops from Afghanistan, leaving U.S. citizens behind, along with many billions of dollars in arms. How might that impact public opinion in the next poll?

4.       Who do you think gained more economic strength in wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, China or the United States?

5.       What type of fiscal policies do you feel we should implement to gain our prior economic superiority?

6.       What may we do as individuals to gain economic strength and security?

7.       Tell us about your company, Houzzle Financial and what you do to help Americans economically, and where may we get more information on your firm.
