New FBI Report Shows Rise in Active Shooter Incidents for the Previous Year, Including a Disturbing Trend Coming Out of California (Guest: Michael Letts)

A new report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation has shown an increase in “active shooter incidents” for the past year, with a 52.5 percent rise from 2020 to 2021. What’s even more startling is that the numbers actually show a higher increase between 2017 and 2021, by 96.8 percent.

The FBI has designated that a total of 61 shootings across 30 states have been deemed “active shooter incidents,” resulting in 103 deaths and 140 wounded. That’s not including any gunmen that may have taken their lives over such incidents.

Out of all of those states, however, California seems to rank the highest, with six “active shooter incidents” over the past year. Keep in mind that these are with a number of statures in place, including universal background checks, an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, a 10-day waiting period on gun purchases, a red flag law and gun registration requirements – the same that President Joe Biden is trying to get passed through Congress for more states.

Here now to speak on this chilling report and the potential effects from it is Michael Letts, a pro-police advocate who serves as founder and CEO for InVest USA, an organization that provides bulletproof vests to officers across the country.

  1. There are some chilling numbers here from the report. What do you think the government is getting wrong when it comes to stopping active shooter incidents such as this?
  2. President Joe Biden is pushing to get several gun bans and laws put in place, but as California’s numbers from the report show, they may not be as effective as he hopes. Why do you think that is? Are there too many things already accessible to active shooters?
  3. There have been mixed reports in the past about the effectiveness of police officers with active shooters, but a recent event in Tulsa showed them getting things right. Could other local governments learn from the reaction time by Tulsa’s team and, hopefully, get proper training needed to prevent such events in the future?
  4. Where do you think Biden’s focus should be in the face of this new FBI report? Is a ban necessarily the answer, or is there another direction he could go?
  5. You’ve spoken about Constitutional Carry in the past, and how effective it is in certain states, such as Philadelphia. Do you still believe this could be the answer when it comes to select people answering back in an active shooter scenario?
  6. Where can we learn more about In-Vest USA? You can visit the official website at http://www.investusa.org.
