Former Israel mayor David Rubin available via Skype, Zoom, or phone
Israel finally will have a government. After an unprecedented triple election in about a year, with a virtual tie all three times, there will be a Unity Government, with the historic swearing in of Benjamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister on May 14, 2020. Included in the power sharing agreement is Bibi eventually turning over the reins to his former rival Benny Gantz to become Prime Minister.
Here with us to examine what this means for Israel and the United States is David Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh, Israel and author of the book, “Trump and the Jews,” and an expert on the soon-to-be-annexed regions within The West Bank (Samaria and Judea).
Suggested Q&A:
- Not to be overly cynical, but after so many false starts, indictments, etc., are we really going to see a swearing in of Benjamin Netanyahu May 14?
Answer: Yes, it is a virtual certainly, a phrase that has been rare in Israel for some time. After the swearing in, Prime Minister Netanyahu will have until May 21 to form a government or Israel will go to fourth election in August.
- Is this Unity Government a good or bad thing for Israel and the world?
Answer: At least initially it is a good thing since Bibi Netanyahu and President Trump and their top advisers work well together. Time will tell how what the relationship will be like between a Benny Gantz and whomever is the U.S. President 18 months from now, if and when Gantz begins his turn as Israeli Prime Minister.
- How is it possible for Netanyahu to continue to be Prime Minister while under indictment—have they dropped the indictment?
Answer: There is no law on the books in Israel preventing a Prime Minister from holding elected office while under indictment. We believe that the accused is innocent until proven guilty.
- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is pretty high up the food chain in world affairs. Why the last-minute decision to make the trip to Israel, even during the Coronavirus pandemic?
Answer: Israel and the United States are close allies and the cooperation between our two countries has increased exponentially during the Trump administration. President Trump and Secretary Pompeo understand that Israel is a U.S. ally and the only democracy in the Middle East where there are many threats to American interests and to those in the free world.
- Like what for instance? Like Iran. Despite the fact that the radical Islamic regime has been hit hard by the coronavirus, they have not slowed down the pace of their race for the nuclear bomb and weapons programs nor their support for international terrorism. These are serious threats to Israel and to American interests, and these threats have not been erased by the coronavirus. What has become a more serious issue is the China issue and Pompeo is sharing American concerns about Chinese attempts to make espionage inroads through the Israeli economy.
- Your book, “Trump and the Jews”, discusses many of these issues that affect our two countries. Where can our viewers/listeners get a copy?
Answer: They can go to my website, www.DavidRubinIsrael.com or just go to Amazon and type in the words “Trump and the Jews”.
