Keep the Pelosi office building open and close down Pelosi’s career By Michael Letts

In what should be an embarrassment to leftist politicians, a building named after one of their leaders may have to close down because leftist policies have been such a failure.

It’s not news that businesses have been fleeing San Francisco because of the unchecked crime in the city. Kelly-Moore Paints, McAfee, Chevron, Tesla, Charles Schwab, Oracle and so many others have not only left San Francisco but California. Fewer people in the city and growing crime have also closed many mom and pop shops.

The city’s shrinking tax base has hindered its ability to pay for needed services.

A few months ago, a headline in the San Francisco Chronicle read, “Crime is so bad near S.F. Federal building employees are told to work from home, officials said.”

According to the newspaper, the United States Department of Health and Human Services advised its staff to work from home rather than come into the 18-story Nancy Pelosi Federal Office Building in downtown San Francisco. The reason given was that because of the rising crime in the city, the agency couldn’t ensure the safety of its staff.

The building is named after former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and is located in her congressional district.

Well, if you don’t have employees in a building, you don’t need to continue using the building and paying rent and maintenance on it.

Sen. Joni Ernst has suggested that with the worry for the safety of employees and the underuse of the building it should be closed until the city is safer.

“Working at a Department of Health and Human Services building shouldn’t be a risk to your health or life, but it is now due to former Speaker Pelosi and the other liberal politicians that have allowed criminal chaos to overtake the streets of San Francisco,” Ernst told The New York Post.

And let’s be honest, the government might as well sell the building, because downtown San Francisco has never been particularly safe. It’s just more obvious now as areas around the building have become havens for the homeless and illegal drug users.

Even Pelosi has expressed concern for the safety of her staffers who have to work from the building. However, she has not recommeneded they work from home, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in August.

The Pelosi building first opened in 2007. It has Pelosi’s local office, and offices for the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Transportation.

“If it’s not safe for federal employees to work here, it certainly can’t be safe for businesses to operate and families to live here,” Ernst wrote. “I’m calling to shut down the Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building. After all, they’ve already been forced to abandon it, so why should taxpayers keep the lights on in Nancy Pelosi’s haunted house?”

Pelosi should be embarrassed that the building that shares her name is in danger of closing because she and other leftists are the reason American cities are collapsing. Liberal policies are destroying the base of the liberal politicians that support them.

The worry, though, is that those leftists fleeing the cities will simply carry their failed beliefs to other cities and destroy them as well.

The government would be better served to leave the Pelosi office building open, and kick Pelosi and others like her out of office.
