Just How Closely Is Ehud Barak Tied In With Israeli Politics? (Guest: Avi Lipkin)

The author explains how the central figure behind the rise in Israeli anger is more deeply invested than some might think.

A lot of trouble continues to grow in Israel during the rule of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, a new report discusses some of the figures behind this uprising – and how they revolve around former Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

Per the report, during a recent podcast with Haaretz reporter Amid Oren, it was noted that Gilead Sher – one of the leaders of the “Resistance” against the Netanyahu government – actually helped put together the structure for the mass rioting that had taken place in the country since the start of 2023.

So how does this tie in with Barak? Sher actually served with him during his brief time as Prime Minister during the start of 2000. Following a stint as chief negotiator during the failed Camp David Peace Summit, they’ve remained rather close.

But the ties go deeper than that. Sher also mentioned association with Shika Bressler, who, according to a report from Israel’s Channel 13, had a group funded by Barak.

To add to this report, Barele Crombly, who put together a number of the pro-judicial reform protests, noted in a recent interview how Barak was helping fund the “Resistance” against Netanyahu. “Ehud Barak is funding the protest with millions if not tens of millions of shekels.”

So what does this mean? Joining us to discuss this further is author Avi Lipkin, who has written such books as Is Fanatic Islam a Global Threat?, Christian Revival for Israel’s Survival, and Islamic Rivalry. His expertise in all things Israel should prove most useful here.

Q&A:

  1. What do you think about this report, which notes that Barak is playing a key part in the resistance against Netanyahu?
  2. Why do you think further investigation hasn’t taken place against Barak? Is it a matter of money, or something else?
  3. Do you see Barak and other members of this “Resistance” continuing to push forward against Netanyahu’s practices in the months ahead? What does this mean for the future of Israel as a whole?
  4. Barak also sits on the board of directors for Paragon, a security firm that could be looking to placate Washington. Did you want to talk about that more, and what kind of a threat that could pose to the United States?
  5. Where do you see what’s happening in Israel going over the next few years? Could the situation get worse before it gets better?
  6. Where can people purchase these books if they’re interested?
    1. They’re available to order via paperback and Kindle on Amazon.com.
